NYFW - Kelly's Round Up

From Nicki Minaj’s long hair, Kayne West not doing anything controversial and Brooklyn Beckham spotted back stage at Victoria’s show, there was certainly lots of celebrity hot gossip from New York. With so many highlights it was tough for us to pick our best bits!!

If you were to look at the beauty notes of editors you would of seen buzz words to describe the best beauty looks, from black eyeliner, glossy eyelids and pastel colour being the talk of the shows. Eye gloss, officially a thing, was also the look at Victoria Beckham. Major product launches also dominated conversations backstage. Pat McGrath debuted her three new Pat McGrath Mother ship Palettes at Coach, whilst Rihanna kicked off NYFW with a big party to launch her Fenty Beauty range. With the products being used backstage at her show the next day and has since sent beauty bloggers into a craze over her 40 shades of foundation to match any skin tone!

Recent season's ice-blue jeans with zero-stretch have become the regular of the street style stars. As it was New York Fashion Week and the fashion gods Tom Ford and Calvin Klein have now spoken, we have fallen for the deepest-indigo denim which is set to become big - this is your cue to ditch grungy, oversized fits. Oh and the NYFW key styling note - fasten your jean jacket all the way up!!

Figures in the Marc Jacobs show made a powerful fashion statement. At the close of an eight-day New York fashion season, Jacobs produced a strong collection that referenced his past. The clothes draped and shaped the body, placing a slender dress against loose, flowing casual wear; or a bold, ethnic print alongside a sophisticated skirt embellished with gilding. The designer referred to his past: the inspiration of the “legendary” Kate Moss’s 2012 Met Ball look and Sofia Coppola’s desire to have her portrait taken in a turban. Described as masterpieces, Marc Jacobs did not disappoint.

Victoria Beckham always manages to cause a stir and this year was no exception, mainly the media covering the ‘no bra’ as she steps out casual and on point. Her collection meant serious business, delicacy can be strong, and VB was quoted. As she talked to fashion editors she was passionate about her collection being honest; she has always been known for show pieces but she wanted her collection to be something that you can actually wear.

Gabriela Hearst’s show was sleek dressing women like men. With impeccably cut coats, and fine cotton tops, skirts and a striped belted dress, followed by a pink silk trouser suit which looked a perfect example of masculine / feminine style. Taking inspiration from politicians such as Winston Churchill and references to Victorian coal miners Gabriela has definitely been fashion streamlining alongside her peers.

There were politics aplenty at NYFW, perhaps most markedly on the runway for the Mara Hoffman collection. The designer's show kicked off with opening remarks by the national co-chairs of the Women's March on Washington, This NYFW was not the first time that plus-sized models appeared on the runway, but it may well be the most significant. Previously, designers have included plus-size models, very often in frumpy and undesirable outfits purely to gain publicity for their show. This time around designers used stunning models like Ashley Graham who wore Michael Kors and Candice Huffine for Prabal Gurang were styled in a similar way to the other models.

There is so much to take in from New York and I’m sure we will be admiring the stunning pieces and the many replicas that will be sure to hit the high-street!
